Update: Worst renting experience I've had in my life. I don't even know where to begin. Maintenance technicians broke a window and left glass all over the floor. When I messaged management, they responded with just an extremely rude "did you try vacuuming?". Management frequently sent rude, condescending, all caps emails to tenants regarding trash policy, etc. The gate didn't work the entire time we rented from this joke of a company, and homeless people would frequently enter and go through the trash, one time a very intoxicated homeless man came through and banged on everyone's doors in the middle of the night screaming incoherently, of course this disgusting company did nothing to fix the gates. My very expensive bike was stolen and apartment broken into, again no security for their properties or bike rooms. Our neighbors were extremely loud, no assistance from Ekoliving again despite numerous complaints. We currently rent in a different location near by the Spruce (the property we were at before), for the same price. It is infinitely better - a clean, secure building with polite and helpful management. It blows my mind how disgustingly incompetent and greedy Ekoliving was, and how unnecessarily difficult and stressful our experience was with them, constantly worried they or their maintenance technicians would enter our house while we were gone and either steal or destroy something else. Only receiving snarky rude emails in response to any request. DO NOT rent from these parasites if you value your time, money, and have a modicum of self respect.

Dirty, expensive, absolutely horrible property management company (Ekoliving). No not rent here if you can help it.

Nice building but ran by an awful property management company. Maintenance will drag their feet and then lie about what work was done and in turn will charge you out the butt for what very little work they did do. Stay away from WDC properties and Ekoliving (owners of spruce apartment) unless you like being nickel and dimed monthly.

Great people working here. Management was really great to work with. They seemed to have made a lot of changes from the days of these horrible reviews from years ago. Beautiful property. Im really happy with my townhome here! Cool layout with Tons of storage.alarm system in unit, very cool neighborhood, I really enjoy it here.

Teeny tiny space for humongous price (cheap buildings with flashy outside to attract), cold drafts at door and windows, in the winter the shower doesnt get hot( they wouldnt and didnt do anything about this), some neighbors are not very dog friendly, and the best part is my car got broken into 4 times in a span of 8 months while living here and the management hasnt done anything to help out its residents. Homeless camps around the area - dont leave anything in you car but that doesnt matter because theyll hit your car up regardless. Horrible parking situation- good luck finding a spot at any time really. The mailboxes are broken, and the gates are on the downhill as well.
Guaranteed im not renewing my lease here

I lived at Spruce for a year and upon my first day I knew I made a wrong choice. My apt was filthy, covered in cat vomit, public hair, cat hair, dirt, etc. The carpet was very worn and felt almost waxy when walking on it. The layout, appliances & countertops are nice but unfortunately the construction was done so poorly you can hear everythinggg from your neighbors. I heard loud music/tv, dogs barking, talking/arguing, cabinet slamming, overall your neighbors are in the same boat and don't seem to care enough to be a respectful neighbor. Most of the people don't seem to work so you always here noise from your neighbors whether it be late at night or early in the morning.

The management turned over multiple times and they only care about getting you in and don't care about you after. The maintenance is terrible as they never update the gate code which is broken most of the time and also the trash room gets disgustingly dirty and smelly most of the time and I had to tell them that 4 of of the 6 lightbulbs on the back of the building were burnt out which made that area incredibly dark and uncomfortable to walk through considering how many tweakers are in the area.

I absolutely could not wait to move out of there, please don't get me wrong as I have never had issues with an apt before so this is a first for me but the fact that there were so many issues with this complex I felt compelled to write a review as I don't want others to have to go through the same thing i've been through.

If you're new to Portland I recommend moving into an older apt complex as these new fancy modern places look great but they are definitely not built the resident in mind and how to keep them long term. Hope this helps!
