I'm not the type to complain on pages like this, however I am trying to warn anyone else that may get scammed like I did. I lived in the Port Royal at Spring Hill Town-homes for 18 months. I paid my rent on time every month, I took care of my property, I even won "patio of the month" last summer. It was just me and my son, and he only lives with me only 50% of the time. We were also out of town a lot when he was with me. Anyway, I paid a $500 deposit when I moved in. I made sure not to damage anything. I used command strips to hang pictures. I deep cleaned the apartment before I left. I used a magic eraser to scrub scuff marks. I knew they'd paint it and replace flooring but I'm not the type of person to leave things dirty.

When moving out, I was not offered to walk through the apartment for their "assessment". I emailed the office and asked when I could expect my deposit, to which she said "up to 30 days" and "there was no damage found". However, yesterday I went to pick up my deposit check and it was only written for $60. I asked why and she told me that a bar/shelf in the refrigerator was broken and the master bedroom window was broken.

The funny part is that when I moved in, the shelf to the fridge was nonexistent. I sent an email after moving in with a list of things that needed to be fixed. When the maintenance man came, he fixed the things and I asked for the shelf to be replaced. He said he'd look into it but I never heard back. It wasn't necessary to me so I never brought it back up. Of course this man does not work there anymore (and now I know why) so they are choosing to believe I am a dishonest person.

Secondly, my town home faced east. The sunshine poured into both bedroom windows. The bedroom upstairs was insanely hot all the time. I never opened the window because I hung up sunshades days after moving in. I put them behind the blinds, which were behind blackout/thermal curtains. It was such a pain to get that all hung, I never dared trying to move any of it to open or even look out the window. However, I am now accused of damaging a window.

Apparently both of these things cost $440 to fix. I am a single mother. My child is not rowdy. I supervise him. He knows that when we rent we take care of the property. I feel like I've been stolen from. I had always heard terrible reviews for this property throughout my time living there, mostly around moving out. I KNEW my town-home was in same or better condition than when I moved in so I thought - that won't happen to me. But it did and I'm honestly just shocked and disappointed at the same time.

So, beware. If you live there... make sure you're there when they do the walk through so they can't make up things.
